Finally the mighty Kernel32 lays down a sterling mix especially for us here at Soulseek Records. Soulseek Allstars Volume 1 represents the cream of the submissions we receive here for our monthly competitions, The Slsk and SSS, along with some exclusive self-released tracks from our regular contributors. In typical Soulseek Records fashion, Kernel32 eschews individual artist style in his tune selection to bring you a flawless mix that at one moment draws you into its cosy fireside warmth, the next punishes you with twisted beats and sounds you didn't know your speakers could make. For Kernel32, this was quite deliberate: "I was hoping to portray the varied styles and genres that the artists involved with soulseek records produce," he says. Not surprising, when you consider that Kernel32 grew up as Alex Kearney in Manchester, England, a town steeped in an eclectic musical heritage over the decades, from the Hacienda and the Madchester scene in the mid-80s to being the home of Autechre, Skam Records and other such electronic luminaries that is is today. As good as K32's mixing abilities are, he himself would be the first to admit that this mix would be nothing without the raw talent exhibited by our contributors month after month, as well as on our occasional projects and compilations.
As an artist, Kernel32 has appeared on 1mmv1 and v2 and will also appear on the forthcoming 1mmv3. A long-time contributor to Soulseek Records, he has also appeared on the Cen-art compilation and the brand new 24HourMassacre. This is his first mix for Soulseek Records but you'd be mad to bet against him doing another in the future.
